
Jessica Schaefer of The Ritz Carlton Dubai and Lizanor R Iyog of Jumeirah Emirates Towers have been declared winner and runner-up of the Receptionist of the Year competition.
Organized by the Dubai chapter of Association of Front Office Managers and Assistant Managers (AICR) under the aegis of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
Ibrahim Yaqoot, Executive Director of Human Resources and Training Solutions at the DTCM, presented the awards at a ceremony held at the Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa.
He said: 'The annual award scheme for one of the most crucial operational part of the hotel industry has taken off well and helping the industry bring about the best professionalism among the hoteliers and to work towards having international recognition for the emirate's booming hospitality industry.' The competition's 2008 edition attracted 15 participants from 15 five-star properties located in the emirate. The competition is held in the last season of the year and comprises of a first stage interview.
This year, after the two stages of questions and interviews, the five finalist scores were collated and results were announced. The winner will represent the Emirate of Dubai at the International Receptionist of the Year competition to be held in Cannes, Frances, from February 18 to 22, to win the coveted David Campbell Trophy, named after the legendary Chef de Reception at The Ritz Hotel, Paris whose dedication to the industry inspired the launch of International Receptionist of the Year competition in his honour in 1995.
Internationale des Chefs de Reception et Sous Directeurs des Grand Hotels (AICR) was founded on the Cote d'Azur in France on 1964, and it has developed into an international fellowship with chapters in many countries.
